4 recommended restaurants in Venice

Like most first-time visitors, Venice left us speechless. It’s a city with a unique atmosphere, completely unique and unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. There is no gap between expectation and reality. It’s just as charming as you imagine.

But you know what else leaves us speechless? crowd. Beautiful and unique, Venice is a very popular tourist destination, attracting large numbers of tourists even in the low season. We went at the end of November, historically one of the quieter months of the year, and it was still pretty crowded.

With so many tourists to satisfy, it’s no surprise that Venice is full of tourist traps. We always do thorough research to avoid these places, but luckily in Venice we don’t have to.

Thanks to our helpful and proactive Airbnb host, we knew where to eat like locals in Venice. Here are four of his favorites.

1. L’ Bacaro de’ Bischeri

A little over a month before we left for Venice, we discovered the magic of schiacciata bread in Florence. If you have never tried it, Schiaciata (or simply schiaccia) is an Italian flatbread from Tuscany. The name schiacciata translates to “pressed” or “flattened,” and it’s similar to focaccia, except it’s thinner, crispier, and, in my opinion, even tastier.

We’ve been dreaming of schiacciata since our time in Florence, so we were delighted to learn that this humble shop makes sandwiches with what is now probably my favorite type of bread. Take a bite and it might be yours too.

Priced at 10 to 12 euros per sandwich (November 2025), L’ Bacaro de’ Bischeri makes sandwiches using common meat fillings such as ham, mortadella, guanciale, speck and roast chicken. There are also one or two vegetarian options.

Baccaro de Bischerry It is a small sandwich shop located near Rialto Mercato. It’s hidden behind a row of souvenir shops so it’s easy to miss.

2. Du Maury Bar

I’m embarrassed to admit this, but how old were we when we learned this ChichettiVenetian cousin spanish pintxos or snack. They’re basically the same thing – small, bite-size dishes served as snacks in bacari (traditional Venetian bars).

Our host recommended several bacari to us, but the Cantina Do Mori stood out. Founded in 1462, it is considered the oldest tavern in Venice. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but it’s a legend young casanova Had a date here once.

like any pintxos bars in san sebastianCantina Do Mori does not have a menu. Different types of pre-made cichetti are already displayed at the bar, so you can pick what you want, order a drink, eat, and repeat.

Forget tablecloths and cutlery – give me a plate of cicchetti served in an old wine barrel and I’m a happy man. I love meals like this!

We were happily eating cicchetti and drinking wine outside the bar when a friendly couple from Germany Sit next to us. According to them, Du Maury’s Tavern became a household name in Germany after appearing in a series of best-selling detective novels American writer Donna Lyon.

The novel features a fictional character named Guido Brunetti, a Venetian police detective who frequents Cantina Do Mori. Apparently these novels are very popular in Germany!

Morey’s Tavern

3. Alco Bar

Bar All’Arco is another Barcaro made famous by the media. I don’t remember seeing this episode, but Ms. Traveleater recognized it from the “Venice” episode. Someone feed Phil. Phil Rosenthal visited All’Arco Bar and tried their grilled cheese with salami and eggplant cicchetto.

Today they didn’t seem to have any, so we tried pretty much everything else. Like Cantina Do Mori, this place is great. I recommend trying everything they do with bacalao.

This cicchetto is topped with eel. When we visited in November 2025, each cicchetto cost about 3 euros.

Conveniently, Alco Bar Cantina Do Mori and Cantina Do Mori are located just around the corner from São Paulo. Be sure to visit both of these places on your next trip to Venice.

4. Antico Forno

Our host gave us a long list of his favorite restaurants in Venice. Most contained brief descriptions, such as “a typical baccaro in Venice” or “a great place to have breakfast nearby,” but this pizzeria in São Paulo was the only one he singled out and gushed over. According to him, it is a must try.

When an Italian local tells you to go to a specific pizzeria, you don’t ask any questions. Just go. I’m so glad we did because the pizza at Antico Forno was amazing, probably the best we’ve had in Italy so far.

Antico Forno offers two types of pizza – a ready-made thick crust pizza pictured below and a made-to-order thin crust pizza. If you want a thick crust pizza, just point to the pizza you want and they’ll heat up the slice for you.

Thin crust pizza is not available per slice. The entire pizza is made from scratch and takes more time. We highly recommend trying both.

I’m not usually a fan of thick dough pizzas, especially those that are pre-made and reheated, but this one made me a believer. The crust may be thick, but it’s surprisingly light, much lighter than it looks.

When they heat the pizza for you, it gets crispy on the outside and very light and airy on the inside. they could have used Vegemite (no offense, man) and BalutI still think this is the best pizza ever. OMG so delicious!

Antico Forno offers classic thin-crust pizza and specialties. they call this Sarah Gardena vegan version made with Italian tomatoes, garlic, roasted eggplant, roasted peppers, red trope onions, fresh basil emulsion and extra virgin olive oil.

It’s delicious and has a crisp, airy texture similar to thick-crust pizza. Like I said, if you have the stomach space, then I recommend trying both.

anticoforno It’s a small pizza place with only a few bar seats, so if your hotel or Airbnb is nearby, you’d better just head there. This place is popular and a local favorite, so dining space can be hard to find.

Final Thoughts on Dining in Venice

You can do all the research you want before visiting Venice, but when it comes to food, no one knows it better than the locals. Having our landlord provide us with all of this advice saved us hours of online research. Thanks Miller!

We only stayed two nights so unfortunately we didn’t have time to visit more than four of these places. Even though it’s brief, I do hope it helps you avoid tourist traps and enjoy authentic, delicious, and cheap food on your next trip to Venice.
