Royal Caribbean changes routes, delays ships due to snowstorm

Royal Caribbean is adjusting its ships to avoid snowstorms and severe winter weather on the U.S. East Coast.

So far, two cruise ships have changed their itineraries due to bad weather, and other changes may be announced.

passenger ride Star of the Seas and Ocean Odyssey Both parties were notified of changes to cruise plans due to the storm.

Here are the changes so far.

Star of the Seas Will Skip Perfect Day at CocoCay

The Star of the Seas sailing on February 22 will have to skip Royal Caribbean’s private island.

“With the weather system expected to bring adverse conditions and rough seas here Spend a perfect day in CocoCay On Monday, February 23rd, we will skip the visit and enjoy an ocean day instead. “

They will now arrive at St. Thomas early as the ship will be sailing around Cocoa Island.

“We apologize for the last minute changes caused by the weather – your safety is our priority.”

This is one of the few trips to CocoCay canceled so far this winter due to bad weather.

Odyssey of the Seas will stay overnight in its homeport

Ocean Odyssey will return to Cape Liberty on February 22, but the sailing will be delayed due to an expected snowstorm.

A letter was sent to guests booking sailings who expected “high winds and rough seas”.

One cruiser posted on Reddit, “We are scheduled to sail out of New Jersey on the Odyssey tomorrow and just learned from RC that we will not be sailing at our scheduled 2pm departure time and we will most likely be at the dock overnight, which means we won’t be sailing until Monday morning.”

The ship is scheduled to visit Port Canaveral, Florida, on Tuesday, Nassau, Bahamas, on Wednesday and CocoCay on Thursday. All those plans could change if the ship departs a day later.

The question is when it will be safe to depart and whether the Port of New York will be open.

Biggest winter storm expected in years

Officials along the East Coast are predicting a severe winter storm that could dump up to 20 inches of snow in parts of the Northeast starting late over the weekend.

The National Weather Service said Saturday that the winter storm is expected to bring “significant impacts” to the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions from Sunday to Monday.

Blizzard and winter storm warnings were issued to tens of millions of people across a large swath of the Northeast, mostly concentrated in New York City.

Heavy snow and blizzard conditions with strong winds are expected along the East Coast from Delaware to southeastern New England.

The nor’easter, originating from storms that moved off the Gulf Coast over the weekend, will spread snow from West Virginia across the mid-Atlantic to southern New England Saturday night into Monday.

The governor of New Jersey, where Liberty Point is located, has declared a state of emergency.
