After all, Stardust Racers won’t be reopening this weekend.

Universal Orlando Resort has extended the renovation of Epic Universe’s Mack Rides racing roller coaster. Stardust Racers closed on February 19th and is scheduled to reopen on March 15th. However, the resort has now extended its closure until April 5.

Last spring, Stardust Racers opened with Universal’s Epic Universe. The Mack Rides roller coaster immediately won rave reviews from fans, ranking sixth globally in Theme Park Insider’s Roller Coaster of the Year poll last year.

However, tragedy struck at Stardust Racers in September when a rider died on the roller coaster. After multiple investigations cleared the coaster and its operator of any defects or misconduct, the coaster reopened the next month.

Unusual weather caused a valley crash in January, leading to another extended closure to reposition the coaster’s trains. Now, the planned three-week renovation has been extended to six weeks.

When it was running, the Stardust Racer has been a throughput workhorse in parks that needed more capacity. The ride’s closure puts greater pressure on other attractions at Epic Universe, which only offers 11 rides. With spring break season here, the wait for Universal Orlando’s new theme park could be even longer.
