
Mobile maps supported by OpenStreetMap
More than a year after launching the brand, SNCF Connect & Tech has added Tesmo Maps to its Tesmo product portfolio, leveraging map fundamentals as a way to transform geospatial data into clear, actionable maps. Covering France and Europe, it combines basemaps, railway tracks and points of interest to make networks, journeys and scenes easier to read. Tesmo Maps aims to increase understanding of mobility and support more sustainable uses, in line with Tesmo’s strategy, the company said.
Functionally, Tesmo Maps provides route drawing and distance calculation, as well as optional 3D visualization capabilities. Maps can be customized based on use cases, from passenger information to operational needs and analytics. The solution is built on the collaborative open mapping project OpenStreetMap and leverages SNCF Connect & Tech’s in-house expertise in mobile data. It is aimed at operators, local authorities, transport organizations and infrastructure managers and is housed in the Tesmo catalog alongside passenger information, distribution, customer relations and agent-oriented application tools.
“The point is that the customer will still be the owner of the data,” said Julia Mason, chief strategy and transformation officer at SNCF Connect & Tech, speaking at VivaTech. “They will be able to edit the data and make their own additions. They will be able to modify the basemap themselves, change colors and update the underlying data themselves, rather than asking the vendor to add something for them. That’s a huge added value for the customer.”
The company’s stated goal is to bring clarity to a structurally complex industry. The Tesmo brand was created to provide modular, unified technology building blocks; in this spirit, Tesmo Maps is seen as a universal mapping foundation that can be used by different business functions and interfaces. SNCF Connect & Tech emphasizes an approach designed to make networks easier to understand and analyze for the benefit of travelers and local regions.
The initial deployment has been carried out on more than 300 TGV INOUI trains. The map is integrated into the in-flight Wi-Fi portal, allowing passengers to track their progress and surroundings while traveling. The company has also flagged a wider range of potential use cases, including travel and other consumer services, although these will depend on partner demand and integration with its interfaces.
Demonstrations were conducted at two industry events, the Mobco trade show and VivaTech. SNCF Connect & Tech reported 2025 revenue of 412 million euros, up 1.2% from 2024, and said it has more than 1,300 employees in Lille, Nantes and Saint-Denis. These numbers were provided by the company.
