The most expensive roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere is about to go online.
Beto Carrero World, based in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, announced an investment of approximately 2 billion reais ($383.3 million) over the next four years. The park primarily seeks to incorporate new areas and accommodation facilities as part of its evolving identity.

A lot of changes are happening in the area. Hopi Harry is mend one’s ways After years of debt and mismanagement, it is currently undergoing major renovations. Thermas Dos Laranjais, the second most visited water park resort in the world, has been developing a host of new attractions and even Purchase land for another location. Cacau Show The chocolate retail giant is investing heavily in a theme park the likes of which Brazil has never seen, now on track to open next year.
Beto Carrero World is no slouch either. The park is widely considered Brazil’s premier theme park and has invested heavily in major IP, upgrades and attractions in recent years. But the park faces huge demand and its rides are somewhat outdated compared to the rest of the world. There is certainly room for growth.
Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?
The dedicated SpongeBob SquarePants-themed area is making waves and has been in development for the past three years. Nickelodeon has been very generous in allowing Bikini Bottom into the theme parks. The franchise is currently held by groups like Triple Five, Parques Reunidos, and soon even Universal Pictures. Beto Carrero World has just hosted character meet-and-greets so far.
More importantly, however, the area will include a massive roller coaster that will cost twice as much as any coaster built in the country, making it overall the most expensive roller coaster in the Southern Hemisphere. If accurate, the latter statement would exceed recent spending on Australia’s big roller coasters (DC Rivals, Steel Taipan, Jungle Rush), each costing just over $20 million before adjusting for inflation.
The case of Bolliger & Mabillard?
Maybe there’s a clue as to who could have made this attraction. The B&M sales team connected with the park through a LinkedIn profile about two years ago. Historically, they have been very exclusive, only supplying roller coasters to the largest theme park groups in the world. South America is not among them, or at least not yet.

Beto Carrero World hasn’t received a coaster since the late 2000s, and none of their currently famous series were produced after the 1990s. A major new roller coaster—no matter who makes it—would definitely be a game-changer for the park. Other companies cannot be ruled out, but if anyone in Brazil can guarantee the addition of B&M, it is them.
further investment
It’s unclear how soon Spongebob will surface. In the meantime, the park is developing other new experiences to complement the program. Will be hatched this year The new Galinha Pintadinha children’s area is worth R50 million ($9.4 million) and themed after the Brazilian YouTube series. Another unknown children’s attraction has also been promised.
Accommodation is also likely to be the largest part of the 4 billion reais. There are plans to build three towers with 200 rooms each, plus possible joint ventures with other hotel brands. There’s no shortage of places to stay near the park, many of which are quite affordable, but the park is determined to offer its own options.
Beto Carrero puts on a great performance
Of course, a long list of improvements is already in the works. Over the past few years, World of Beto Carrero has opened new areas and attractions based on Nerf Guns and Hot Wheels. Last November, the country’s biggest debut— and the world’s only Wild West theme ——Pizza Hut. The Madagascar Wild River Adventure has also just been revamped to include larger boats, effectively doubling the capacity of the hugely popular water ride.
The park was founded in 1991 by the late Beto Carrero, who had long toured Brazil with acrobats and animal circuses. Wildlife conservation has been at the heart of theme parks for decades, until Zoo to close suddenly in 2024. Many suspect the vacant land will allow the relatively landlocked park to expand with new areas and a flagship coaster.
As of the time of this article’s publication, there’s still little information on the new attraction’s schedule or even details. Regardless, this represents an extremely optimistic evolution of Beto Carrero World’s identity and provides an even stronger reason to visit Brazil.
