I lived in a dome in Colombia – it was amazing

Bosko in Guatape offers geodesic igloos in a quiet, natural setting 2 to 2.5 hours from Medellín.

Some places are photographed beautifully, and some places feel beautiful.

The kind that slows down your nervous system the moment you arrive. The kind that don’t ask for content – they invite presence. It feels less like a stay and more like a brief pause with the world.

This is what it’s like to live in a dome Bosco In Guatape, Colombia.

Bosko is a hotel immersed in nature, nestled in the green hills outside Guatapé, known for its geodesic igloos and quiet, romantic atmosphere. It’s a place people book for anniversaries, honeymoons, and slow, intentional couples travel—originally, that’s exactly what I planned.

I was planning to stay here with my partner. We broke up shortly before the trip and I had a choice: cancel it, or go anyway. I decided to go alone.

What was supposed to be a romantic escape turned into a solitary retreat—and surprisingly, turned out to be one of the most grounding and peaceful stays I’ve experienced in years.

Where is Bosco located?

Bosco is located on the hill outside Guatape, Colombiaabout 2-2.5 hours drive from Medellin. Guatape itself is a colorful and lively tourist town, while Bosco is located just outside the main center and is surrounded by greenery and valley views.

This location offers you two distinct experiences in one trip:

  • Visit Guatapé’s restaurants, lake activities, and downtown
  • The property is completely quiet and private

It gives people a sense of isolation without being isolated.

What it’s actually like to live in Bosco

Bosko feels more like a private nature resort than a hotel.

There is very little noise around the hotel, no crowds, and no ongoing activity. The domes are spaced apart to create a strong sense of privacy. You won’t see other guests often, and you won’t be surrounded by common areas or busy sidewalks.

The design inside the dome is simple yet intentional:

  • Large windows bring the scenery into the room
  • soft light
  • natural texture
  • Comfortable sleeping area
  • Calm, uncluttered layout

The morning was quiet. The night remains the same. The core of this experience is about slowing down, not doing more.

Another thing I appreciate about Bosko is that the property was intentionally designed around the landscape rather than being forced upon it. The domes and cabins sit gently on the hillside, preserving the natural topography and surrounding vegetation rather than reshaping it. You feel like you’re in the environment, not on top of it.

Sustainability here feels functional rather than performative. The property minimizes environmental disruption, avoids large-scale land transformation, limits light and noise pollution, and prioritizes low-impact operations. We also place a strong emphasis on working with local suppliers and supporting the surrounding community, which adds to the feeling that Bosko is part of the ecosystem, rather than separate from it.

How is the breakfast at Bosko?

Bosko’s breakfast was delivered straight to my dome every morning – so nice! Every day, I find a freshly prepared Colombian breakfast waiting for me: coffee, fresh fruit, bread and local specialties.

I usually take breakfast out to my private terrace and enjoy the panoramic view of the surrounding mountains while sipping my coffee. It’s the perfect slow way to start the day.

Tip: If you have any dietary preferences or special requests, I recommend letting the hotel know when booking – they will be happy to accommodate.

How is the pool area at Bosko?

Part of the reason I booked Bosco was for its incredibly unique hillside pool and hot tub.

Bosko Guatape, Colombia pool view

The pool area extends into terraces up the hillside, with the multi-level structure blending seamlessly into the surrounding greenery. Swimming there felt completely private, like the pool was just for me, with a panoramic view of the valley stretching beyond the hotel.

This isn’t a social or crowded space – it’s meant for slow, quiet moments, whether you’re swimming, reading, or just soaking up the scenery.

Is it possible to stay at Bosko alone or is it only suitable for couples?

Bosko is clearly designed for couples. The privacy, ambience and layout make it ideal for a romantic getaway.

But to my surprise, as a standalone accommodation, it worked very well.

It doesn’t feel performative or couple-centric and won’t make solo travelers feel out of place. There’s no pressure to socialize, no group activities, and no shared spaces to cause awkwardness if you’re on your own.

Instead, the experience is quiet, introspective, and down to earth.

My life is simple:

  • slow morning
  • Drinking coffee and watching the scenery
  • quiet rather than stimulating
  • Rest guilt-free
  • space for thinking

It’s not so much a “trip” as it is a reset.

When is the best time to visit Bosco and Guatapé?

The weather in Guatapé and the surrounding area is fairly stable year-round, but timing is still important.

Dry season (December to March, July to August)

  • best weather conditions
  • Clearer vision
  • Little rain
  • higher demand and prices

Shoulder season (April to June, September to November)

  • lush scenery
  • smaller crowds
  • More availability
  • rain occasionally

Even during the rainy season, mornings are usually sunny and showers often occur later in the day.

How to book accommodation in Bosco

I booked accommodation here to get the best price. Nightly rates typically range from about $250 to more than $500, depending on the season and suite type, and many include breakfast. Due to limited supply, early booking is recommended.
