Launceston Airport CEO Katie Cooper said: “Today we welcome an exciting new chapter to Launceston Airport as we welcome Link Airways and celebrate the launch of our new direct route to Canberra.”

“Whether it’s your first visit to the Capitol, first sight of Falls Canyon, or simply a long-awaited reunion, this new service opens the door to seamless two-way travel and invites more people to explore all that our region has to offer.

“With seasonal and year-round services, we now have direct connections to all mainland state capitals and national capitals, making our region easily accessible to millions of Australians.”

Link Airways network strategy manager Jeff Boyd said the new routes “benefits businesses, governments and leisure travelers alike”.

“It also creates new, convenient connections for passengers through Link Airways’ codeshare partnership with Virgin Australia and provides superior connectivity thanks to Virgin Australia’s vast route network,” he said.

“Thanks to the Tasmanian Government’s Aviation Attraction Fund for working with Canberra and Launceston Airports to help launch this service.”

Link Airways is now the fifth airline to serve Launceston, joining QantasLink, Jetstar, Virgin Australia and Sharp Airways. The route is based on the airport Start overhaul Expanding its domestic departures lounge as part of the terminal’s redevelopment plan.

The project will see the construction of a new gate and the “comprehensive refurbishment and modernization” of gates 3 and 4, as well as an expansion of the gate area by 600 square metres.

“The expansion is designed to provide passengers with more space, improved seating, better wayfinding and a significantly enhanced experience,” the airport said in a press release last month.

“This project is another in a series of upgrades to the airport’s departure experience, with improvements to check-in, security checkpoints and departures all completed over the past four years.”
