Shaping the Future of UIAA Youth Council

Shaping the Future of UIAA Youth Council

Dear UIAA members:

The UIAA is relaunching the UIAA Youth Council to strengthen and better connect the youth activities of its member federations.

new leadership
  • president: Michael Nagel (German Alpine Association, DAV) – Former long-time member of the German Federal Youth Council. Michael has a strong commitment to developing diverse global youth networks and promoting youth exchanges between federations.

  • Vice President: Jane Carney (Irish Mountaineering) – Training Officer, Outdoor Education and Science Teacher and Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor since 2013. Jane is a strong advocate for youth development and international cooperation.

In order to relaunch based on your realities and needs, we would be grateful if you could support us by taking two actions:

1) Complete a short survey (5-10 minutes)

Please fill out this form to help us understand how your federation currently organizes youth, your main activities and what support or communication would be most helpful:

If possible, please submit by February 5, 2026.

2) Nominate Youth Council Internal Committee Representative (via Typeform)

We invite you to nominate a representative (or representatives) to join internal committee – A core team will coordinate and oversee the Youth Council’s activities throughout the year. Please find it here detail Role description for this position. Please submit your nomination via this form:
https://theuiaa.typeform.com/2026ComNom

If possible, please submit the form before February 15, 2026.

How the Youth Council will work

We are structuring the committee into two complementary levels:

  • one internal committee (an active volunteer group contributes year-round), and

  • one plenary meeting (annually or biennially) brings together youth leaders from member federations to network, coordinate and share projects.

Thank you in advance for your input and support. If you have any questions please reply directly Philip Quintat.
